We chat to Stevie muse Saasha Burns to talk global style inspirations and why there's no place quite like her home by the seaside.
Is there anything you’re reading, listening to or indulging in that you would recommend to our Stevie May women, especially ahead of a long-haul flight?
Flying is one of those rare chances to truly relax, and after so much work and planning before a long trip it’s so nice to disconnect from technology and get some much needed rest. I always pack some new books with me, usually for those in-between moments at the airport. I’ve just read Shoe Dog by Nike founder and chairman Phil Knight - it’s such a great read and particularly poignant at the moment having recently launched BEAR. I loved reading about his business journey from the 60s onwards. I am also currently reading The Uninhabitable Earth, Life After Warming by David Wallace-Wells - it’s such powerful, eye-opening read on the future of our planet after warming. I would highly recommend everyone to read this book and share it with their friends, family, and work colleagues to encourage real action and change to stabilise our climate for future generations.
Between owning two businesses and constantly travelling for work, how do you like to unwind and recharge?
I love nothing more than being close to the ocean - it has such a calming and grounding effect. We travel so much for work between London, Paris, New York and Sydney, but I honestly can’t stay in the city for more than a few weeks before needing to get back to nature.
Ahead of a lengthy flight and jam-packed Paris Fashion week, what are your must-have travel essentials to stay fresh?
I take BEAR Explore Essential Daily Vitamins every day, to help build my immune system and to keep me feeling my best. It’s part of my morning routine, and I always start the day with a large glass of water and my supplement, no matter where I am in the world. I have a very simplified beauty routine and use all natural, nontoxic skincare and love cleansing my face, applying a good face mask, and a luxury face oil before and during any travel. I use a Grown Alchemist Cream Cleanser, the Susanne Kaufmann Glow Mask and BEAR Wonder Essential Daily Face Oil.
Your effortlessly elegant style never ceases to inspire us. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Your style is so authentic and original, do you have any tips on how to transform a staple piece to reflect your own individual style?
I always try and invest in pieces that are made and cut well - the right fit is everything. I also like pieces to be slightly oversized and I’m not afraid to wear colour. Classic pieces in your wardrobe don’t always need to be black, there’s no better way to reflect your personal style and stand out than to go for the same piece in offwhite, an earthy tone or a print.
What shows are you most excited to see at Paris Fashion Week and why?
I love being in Paris at this time of year, there’s such a great energy to the city during fashion week. I honestly love seeing all the street-style and how different creatives within the fashion industry interpret trends and style key pieces from brands. I’m looking forward to seeing Dior’s SS20 collection, and also Nanushka and La Collection for their beautiful minimalist and effortless pieces.
